Garden Bars dream charity night for the kids
THERE was a real party spirit at the World Famous Garden Bar in Playa Fañabe as Paul Webb (Webby), his wife Dawn and son Matt hosted a special Charity Night.
They were supporting Tenerife Sur Lions Club’s annual Dream Holidays for under-privileged and handicapped kids.
At the heart of the event was a mega raffle and auction with a huge range of prizes, including dining reservations at several top class-restaurants, Scuba Diving, Finest Scotch and many others.
There were also unique items donated by sporting and television personalities.
These included a genuine Red Bull watch; the original Billy Mitchell script for the Albert Square Olympics episode of the BBC’s soap EastEnders, personally signed by Perry Fenwick, who plays Billy, plus a number of autographed shirts and other items from well-known sporting personalities.
Entertainment was provided by top DJ and singer Ray Wilde who, along with the support of guest singers Big Marc and John Doonan, ensured a lively party atmosphere among the many friends of Webby and holiday-makers.
There was one hilarious moment when a group of Webby’s friends, all sporting identical white vest-tops, joined him in a rendition of the Village People’s popular YMCA hit, the somewhat-adrift choreography adding to the amusement.
Also present were Tenerife Sur Lions President Norman Goodall MBE, his wife Edna, Vice-President Mike Marshall and his wife Margaret.
During the evening Norman spoke about the Lions’ work and achievements, and he thanked everyone for supporting the evening.
He promised that the money raised would all go towards supporting the children’s holidays.
He also emphasised that all Tenerife Sur Lions Club members were volunteers in their right and received nothing for their efforts – save the satisfaction of seeing what your support achieves in the lives of those who are less fortunate.
Dawn Webb was on hand to ensure complete impartiality of the raffle draw, the first winning ticket being chosen with the assistance of a young helper.
The raffle and auction prove to be an outstanding success and the generosity of the participants truly amazing .
Raffle prizes were offered back as auction items to raise even more money. On top of that, Webby’s son Matt, having worked non-stop all evening, donated his entire pay and his tips for the night to the Lions.
Tenerife Sur Lions Club would like to say a big thank-you to all who took part: to Webby, Dawn and Matt, who organised the night; to all the Garden Bar staff who supported them; to Ray Wilde, Big Marc and John Doonan for the evening’s entertainment – and to everyone who took part in the events and gave so generously to make life a little better for those who can only dream.
You are the Dream Makers – Thank you!
